Prepare for class

Tap on an accordion tab below for detailed information.

  • Students at Crown Yoga are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start of class. Crown Yoga doesn’t have a private lobby, so doors close right at the start of class to avoid distractions caused by late arrivals. If you arrive late and are unable to get into class, cancel your class booking and set up your next class.

Below are helpful guidelines to successfully prepare for your first class:

    • Saucha. Remove your shoes upon entering the yoga studio. This simple act helps us maintain a clean and inviting space for everyone to practice.

      • In yoga, the first of the five Niyamas is saucha, which means purity or cleanliness, and it extends to both our physical space and our bodies. Many cultures view removing shoes before entering a space as a sign of respect. By leaving your shoes at the door, you honor this tradition and create a mindful transition into your practice, setting the stage for a more focused and enriching experience.

We provide benches and coat racks at the studio entrance for your shoes and belongings. Thank you in advance for respecting this policy.

    • Temperate. We are a temperate yoga studio and do not offer hot yoga classes. Our studio temperature stays at around 69 to 70 degrees (f) and is very comfortable for our yoga classes and the styles of yoga we teach.

    • Hygiene. Showering before class is not required; however, do be mindful of possible body odors or other strong scents you might bring in that may distract your fellow yogis.

    • Scents. Essential oils and deodorant are welcome in the studio; however, please save your dabs of perfume or cologne for after your class. This avoids scent distractions and sensitivities other yogis may have to scents.

    • Attire. You absolutely DO NOT need fancy yoga fits for a yoga class. Wear breathable clothing that allows you to move freely. You don’t need moisture-wicking clothing, but it may make you more comfortable.

    • Hydration. Drinking H2O before (and during!) class will help you maintain your energy level, prevent fatigue, improve body movement, regulate your body temperature, and prevent overheating.

    • Sustenance. Save your meals for after your class(es). A full stomach can cause discomfort during poses, especially true for inversions and twists, as the movement of your body can interfere with digestion, leading to nausea, bloating, and difficulty focusing on your practice

  • Our studio has all the props students need for all of the classes we offer; however, we have a limited number of mats to loan. Please bring your yoga mat and a bottle of water.

If you have favorite props from your home practice, you’re welcome to bring those to class.

    Adjustment cards

Teachers may offer hands-on adjustments during class. If so, they will offer you a consent card, which you can place at the top of your mat. This lets your teacher know whether you are open or not to hands-on adjustments while in a pose. You may always ask the teacher for hands-on adjustments if it suits you, even if the consent cards are not offered.

    Connect with your teachers

If you have any physical limitations, injuries, are pregnant, or have sensitivities to incense or smoke, or any other concerns, inform your yoga teacher. Your safety, comfort, and wellbeing are important to us, and sharing this information helps us tailor the experience for you.

    Honor your body

In each yoga class, honor your body’s unique rhythm. If you ever feel overwhelmed, listen to your body, mind, and spirit. Feel free to take a seat or lie down on your mat, reconnect with your breath, and rejoin when you’re ready. Child’s Pose is a wonderful way to center yourself and find calm. Embrace the poses that resonate with you, and feel free to modify or skip those that don’t. Simply commit to staying for the whole class and enjoy the experience.
